Nazaré in Portugal was once a sleepy fishing village. Until the Big Wave surfers came along and threw themselves into the huge monster waves at Praia do Norte. The highest wave ever surfed in Nazaré and the relaxed surfer vibe in the village leaves no doubt that this is the home of the hang loose.
Praia do Norte, the north beach, is the most famous beach in Nazaré, as this is where the monster waves roll in. Praia do Norte is therefore unsuitable for bathing. Nevertheless, the beach is fantastically beautiful.
